HUGO.legal lawyers joined forces with the Estonian Human Rights Centre, the Estonian Bar Association, and the Estonian Refugee Council to provide free legal assistance to all Ukrainian war refugees arriving in Estonia. Lawyers offer consultations on both basic issues and more complex international law matters. This is a private initiative aimed at reaching all those in need.

War refugees can receive up to 5 hours of free legal assistance from HUGO.legal. To access legal assistance, those in need must contact HUGO.legal’s customer service and register for a free consultation. When attending the consultation, it is necessary to bring an identification document (if no document is available, HUGO can provide assistance with temporary protection procedures).

HUGO.legal co-founder and chief lawyer Erki Pisuke comments on the initiative as follows: “There is hardly anyone who hasn’t been personally affected by the overwhelming injustice happening in Ukraine. Such a situation could happen to any of us, and our dedicated lawyers wish to fully support the people of Ukraine and the refugees arriving here. We encourage everyone in need to reach out to us with their questions and not face their concerns alone.”

HUGO provides individuals with initial guidance on Estonia’s legal system and assistance in the following areas:

  • unaccompanied minors and related procedures,
  • legal issues related to healthcare services,
  • education requirements,
  • social benefit rights,
  • labor law,
  • certificates of marital status,
  • rental market regulations and disputes.
